"Be what you are. This is the first step toward becoming better than you are."

One great advice that a friend gave me when I left Bangor was : read the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

...

the what ?

Because he's a very good friend, I trusted him and I bought that book. It's just absolutely brilliant. There's a very brief description from Wikipedia :
"The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which includes the Eight "I'd Really Rather You Didn't"s, is a text written by Bobby Henderson that is considered to embody the main beliefs of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM), a religion created as a counter to Intelligent Design (ID)."

And some phrases from the book !!

"With these changes come religious opportunities the likes of which haven't been seen since the Reformation"

"Design advocates have sucessfully argued that their alternative theory deserves as much attention as Evolution, since neither can be considerated fact"

"It seems strange that Evolution is singled out as "just a theory" when there are so many basic ideas in science that remain unproven, yet are still taught as fact"

"ID proponents can boast of several scientists -brave men who are willing to be called upon by name- to represent their views"

"... who are probably a little warm now, if you get my drift"

"However, I predict that the well-prepared ID scientists will soon have liberal activist judges quaking in their penny loafers"

"Far be it from me to cast stones, but there are disturbing rumors about him going around"

"Laws will be passed and upheld, and only judges will be able to rule on them"

"To put it bluntly, the god-hating communists will have finally won"

"Extending the science tool metaphor further, shouldn't we endeavor to give scientists the largest collection of tools possible ?"

Now, it's my turn to advise you all to read that book and become Pastafarians !!

Good morning everyone !! (yeah, it's 5pm, so what ??)

I was playing drums and I thought : "mmmh (that's the sound of me thinkinhg), why not stopping making noise and looking for more phrases ??"
I have few minutes free, so here we are...

These are from "Winnie the Pooh : The Complete Collection of Stories and Poems" by A. A. Milne. Yeah, I'm reading Winnie the Pooh AND I'M LOVING IT !!! So no comments.

"There were the tracks; crossing over each other here, getting muddled up with each other there; but, quite plainly every now and then, the tracks of four sets of paws."

"I've been foolish and deluded"

"Through them and between them the sun shone bravely; and a copse which had worn its firs all the year round seemed old and dowdy now beside the new green lace which the beeches had put on so prettily."

"He was just beginning to say that it was all right now, when he found that it wasn't, so after a short drink, which he didn't really want, he waded back to Christopher Robin"

"So Roo, who was drinking his milk, tried to say that he coud do both at once... and had to be patted on the back and dried for quite a long time afterwards"

"Everybody was very silent, except Roo who was just finishing a loud attack of hiccups and trying to look as if it was one of Rabbit's relationship"

"'I don't know,' said Pooh rather dolefully"

Right, no time for more today, so I shall let you go !!
(and you should all read Winnie the Pooh, it's really nice and sweet ^^)

Guess what ??

There's another play !!!
This time I was involved in the writing process. I'm in the credit, as a writter. Alright, all I did was being there as it happened, but still, it was good fun. It's called "I'm getting burried in the morning", and it's brilliant !!

Are you ready ?

"A lot of people contact me on regular basis"

"My opinions are very much in demand within the online community"

"You know that people who use profanity are just making up for a lack of vocabulary ?"

"I'm just gonna stash my coat"

"They shinned up the drainpipe"

"We could hollow him out and wear him like a suit"

"So what exactly did this accident entail ?"

"A shave wouldn't go amiss either"

"I've got 3000 packets of sweets that are still available stockpiled in my bedroom!"

Gosh I love this play ^^

This semester, we have to look for phrases that illustrate the use of a new word, a structure, an expression... something useful and new !!

So I went through some scripts that I got from my semester in Bangor : the first one is called "Cricklewood Green : Museum of Art", written by some friends of mine. We were supposed to play it, but it ended up being impossible (I still think we should have done it but hey, that's life...)
Reading it, I found out they were plenty of interesting phrases that I never really understood ! Lots of phrasal verbs that I wasn't even suspecting... Shame on me...

So here it goes :

"Stop me if I'm rambling, I just think everybody should talk to strangers. Apart from children, for obvious reasons. They can't sustain an intelligent conversation"

"Has anything been handed in ?"

(when a character kneels down in front of a guy in a wheelchair) "Now I'm not proposing to you so don't get any ideas, I am merely lowering myself to your level"

"They were thundering footsteps"

"I've been planning that for years, but the opportune moment has never arisen"

"The only sanctuary was the basement. And that was riddled with zombies"

"Fortunately, we appear to have escaped unscathed"

"I don't want to bang on about it. I shall soldier on"

"I don't have anything against cucumber per se. I just think they're a bit bland"

"We've been tiptoeing around, trying ever so hard not to say anything that might be construed as offensive"

"You don't think you might be jumping the gun a little ?"

"Even so, twenty, that's not really going to be enough to take over the world, is it ?"

"Well I hit him to shut him up. But I tried to kill her.
And your intention travelled down this piece of glass-covered wood ?"

"Take a look at the masks. They're breathtaking"

"You remember the hope I gave you a moment ago ? There appears to have been a distribution error as there is a slight chance that it is forlorn"

"The thing is, I thought the Transformers were fictionnal, ergo I paid it no heed"

"Auntie Celia stormed out"

(Faye crawls out of the vent, pulling a rope. She hands Matthew the rope)

"Yeah, got him out of a right pickle, I can tell you"

"That wasn't up to your usual standard"

"Don't dwell on the past"

"What curse ? Nobody mentioned anything about a curse.
Neither did me"

(He disappears from view as zombies pour in to the room)

Oh yeah, this play is just fantastic !!! (and I was was supposed to play a secret agent ^^)

Samedi 11 avril 2009 6 11 /04 /Avr /2009 12:53

Wow, it's been ages since I posted anything there... Several reasons to that : I don't have internet anymore at my flat and... well, that's it.

My trip to Bangor was brilliant, the only problem was the day I left France, there was snow everywhere, so I nearly broke my back on my way to the station, and I spent hours in the train : I had to change in Paris because we couldn't reach Châtelet for some reasons, and then this damn train was really really slow. I thought I would miss my plane, but no! It was an hour and a half delayed. In Liverpool, the weather wasn't better, I didn't get lost like the previous time but all the trains were late. I finally ended walking in the Belle Vue around 5.30 pm (11 hours after I first got on a train in the morning !), freezing because it was snowing in Bangor too. But a friend was already there waiting for me :)
Came back on Friday, once again it was really hard to leave this place and everybody there. But I'll be back soon.

Anyway, the big news is : we left Fizz-Buzz for a quizz game !!

Some quotes I've been asking the other students :

1) "Living easy, loving free..."
2) "A shortcut to what ? Mushroom !"
3) "Mama put my gun in the ground"
4) "You ain't nothing but a hound dog and you ain't no friend of mine"

So, did you guess what song/movie they come from ??

1) "Highway to Hell", AC/DC of course !!
2) The Lord of the Ring : The Fellowship of the Ring
3) "Knockin' on Heaven's door" (not originally by the Guns n' Roses, but it is the best version)
4) "Hound Dog", Elvis Presley

More to come !!

Now we're on holidays, I'll have plenty of time to write loads of this blog, so see you very soon :D
